Product Introduction Kaolin

Kaolin is an economic term used for nearly white clay deposits. These deposits mainly consist of the mineral kaolinite or its derived products. In the past, the term china clay was used as a synonym for kaolin. The name kaolin is derived from the Chinese word Kaoling, meaning “white hill,” where kaolin clay was originally extracted. White kaolin, or china clay, is widely used in the production of porcelain and ceramics. It is also used in the paper, paint, rubber, plastic, fertilizer, fiberglass, and cosmetics industries.

The products of Kani Faravar Toos Company include the extraction and production of kaolin, as well as various types of industrial clays.

Kaolinite is a clay mineral with the chemical formula Al2Si2O3(OH)4 and belongs to the group of industrial minerals. Rocks that are rich in kaolinite are also known as kaolin or china clay. Kaolin is used in various industries as a primary raw material and, in some cases, as an auxiliary material alongside other substances. Its competitive price and unique properties provide specific benefits in different industries.

The extensive use of kaolin in industry is due to the following properties:

  • Excellent filler and coating material
  • Chemically stable over a wide range of pH variations
  • Suitable absorbent for inks and paints
  • Used as a hardening agent in the petrochemical industry
  • White color, making it suitable for use as a coloring material
  • Special luster and whitening capability
  • Catalytic properties
  • Excellent filling and coating properties
  • Surface softening and non-abrasive properties
  • Low electrical and thermal conductivity
  • Affordable price

The main applications of kaolin include fillers, coating and whitening agents, extenders, abrasion-resistant materials, diluents, hardening agents in the petrochemical industry, surface softeners, and catalysts. It is widely used in industries such as paper manufacturing, ceramics, inks and paints, refractories, plastics, rubber, pharmaceuticals, fiberglass, refractory materials, construction materials, pesticides, absorbents, cleaning products, food products, pharmaceutical manufacturing, agriculture, and fertilizer production.

In Iran, this mineral is used in fireclay bricks, furnace linings, heating boilers, and tiles.
